Port of Palm Beach

Port of Palm Beach
Port of Palm Beach Slip No.3 Expansion

Miller Legg has designed for the relocation of certain utilities in direct conflict with the new locations of bulkheads and associated stormwater management system to be constructed at Slip 3 of the Port of Palm Beach. The water main and/or service lines required relocation of water boxes, meters, water services and fire services. This included additional water main routing to provide redundant supply for fire protection and a new sewage lift station to accommodate tenant improvements. Portions of the proposed infrastructure were to be installed by horizontal directional drilling. In addition to the design of the relocated facilities stated above, Miller Legg coordinated with the Client’s team to reflect final locations of other utilities such as drainage culverts, electric power distribution, transformers and utility boxes, lighting, and telephone/data systems on a master utility plan to reduce potential conflicts during construction. The firm also performed investigation of locations of other existing utilities using subsurface utility engineering techniques for identification of potential conflicts with existing electrical lines, cement lines, liquid asphalt lines and fuel lines. Since multiple sources were being pursued for funding, phased construction was necessary to match improvements with availability of funds. Miller Legg also provided assistance during construction.

Port of Palm Beach Berth 17

Miller Legg provided civil engineering design and permitting services for potable water and fire protection utilities (water mains, fire hydrants and potable water services) designing water main, fire hydrants and potable water services to be constructed at the new Berth 17 project at the Port of Palm Beach. Coordination with City of Riviera Beach and Palm Beach County Fire Departments and permitting through the Palm Beach County Health Department were included. In addition to the design of the facilities stated above, Miller Legg coordinated with the Client’s team to determine final locations of other utilities such as drainage culverts, electric power distribution, transformers and utility boxes, lighting, and telephone/data systems to reduce potential conflicts during construction.
