Al Khobar Convention Hotel
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
Commissioned by Bouygues (headquartered in France) to provide master planning, program development, civil engineering, architectural coordination and design for a new five-star hotel and conference center in the thriving urban center of Al Khobar.
The site is located on the Persian Gulf and was surrounded by intense development. The master plan, which was based upon strong cultural requirements, was to provide an initial site plan and architectural design for the hotel/conference center and future expansion of the property for other uses. The program includes a 400-room hotel, rooftop swimming pool, 500-seat conference/wedding facility, outdoor exercise track and lushly landscaped grounds. Adjoining the hotel, but secluded from view, is the Al Khobar residential compound for permanent residents without connection to the hotel.
Architectural design was provided by HHCP International.
