Philipsburg Redevelopment & Front Street Streetscape
Philipsburg, St. Maarten

The design team was commissioned by the Antillean Island government to provide site assessment, themed conceptual design, and construction plan development for the Front Street roadway corridor in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The traffic flow patterns of pedestrians and vehicles for the 1.5- mile corridor were studied, a conceptual master plan that improved overall traffic flow was developed, and treatments for roadways and plazas that addressed both function and aesthetics were provided. In addition, preliminary construction documents, as part of the Front Street beautification within the central retail and cultural downtown area, were provided.

As part of this work, the design team redesigned the Wathey Town Square that connects to the main tourist embarkment point, Captain Hodge’s Wharf, and provided themed landscape, lighting, and hardscape design for 0.75 miles of the cultural corridor.
