Habitat Restoration
Allapattah Flats CERP
Martin County, Florida
A 15,370-acre parcel of property recently acquired by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) located in unincorporated Martin County at the intersection of SR 714 and County Road 609. Miller Legg performed wildlife surveys for protected species (primarily burrowing owls and gopher tortoises) in this agricultural area. The project goal was to restore historical wetland hydrology to the area. Miller Legg used GPS and GIS mapping techniques to complete the project.
Additionally, Miller Legg is assisting with the preparation of the restoration plan for Parcel C. This includes the mapping of existing conditions, habitat evaluations and the identification of proposed restoration objectives.
This project is part of the firm's contract with the SFWMD for Miscellaneous Engineering Support Services to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) Contract.
