Mitigation Banking
Heron Bay Golf Course Mitigation Bank
Coral Springs, Florida
The design of this 15-acre fresh water marsh and hardwood mitigation bank in west Broward County was developed with golf course architect, Mark McCumber, to introduce habitat diversity and to enhance the course's play and aesthetics.
The mitigation bank includes freshwater marsh, forested wetlands, herbaceous transitional and upland habitats. In order to provide a more mature look for the various areas within the mitigation bank, relocated mature wetland trees including cypress and bay species were incorporated into the design.
In 1998 this project was presented with the Audubon Society's Award for Ecologically Responsive Golf Courses.
This private mitigation bank serves to offset unavoidable wetland impacts generated by WCI Communities residential and commercial developments.
