SL-15 Mitigation Area / Jensen Beach Causeway Improvements
St. Lucie County, Florida

For this restoration project, Miller Legg was responsible for designing and permitting a seagrass and mangrove creation area within the Indian River Lagoon on a 10-acre island owned by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) under a Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) easement.

Coordination of these restoration efforts was completed through multiple agencies including FDEP, South Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Elements of the restoration efforts include field evaluation, ranking and prioritization of suitable areas to mitigate, mitigation design, and permitting.

Field evaluations were done to classify the island vegetation and use, as well as a seagrass survey in the island vicinity.
