Established in 1965

History of Miller Legg

Since our establishment in 1965, Miller Legg has consistently worked to improve communities and create environments for a variety of public and private clients. Miller Legg, as we know it today, was established through the official merger of Robert H. Miller & Associates (Civil Engineering) and R.P. Legg & Associates (Land Surveyors) in 1995.

Landscape Architecture was integrated into the firm in 1997. Through several other acquisitions and mergers, Miller Legg has become the well-known, multi-disciplinary firm we know today.

In recognition of our successful work in the County, Miller Legg was the recipient of a Broward County Proclamation for our 50th Anniversary, in 2015 and again, in 2021!

The County designated April 1st as Miller Legg Appreciation Day.

How it all began

We could share all of our progress and history, but that would take too long. Instead, we’ll suffice by sharing the key points of our history in the following timeline and video series. Take a look!

Established 1965

The first half of current-day’s Miller Legg is established as “Rowe, Legg & Associates” (Land Surveyors), by John Rowe and Robert “Bob” Legg.

Introduction 1965-2005

An introduction to this 8 chapter video series that covers the first 55 years of Miller Legg’s History, from 1965-2005!

Chapter 1 - 1965 – 1966

The first chapter of Miller Legg’s history series: 1965-2005! Chapter 1 – Two Entrepreneurs covers the year 1965 – 1966, and the founders of the two companies that would later become current day “Miller Legg”.

Chapter 2 - 1967 – 1972

The second chapter of Miller Legg’s history series: 1965-2005! Chapter 2 – Growing a Company covers the years 1967 – 1972, through which the two founding companies developed the initial skills that would later make up the multi-disciplinary Miller Legg we know today.

1976 - Robert H. Miller & Associates

The 2nd half of current day Miller Legg was established when Robert “Bob” Miller bought out his ownership at M.E. Berry & Associates, and renamed his company: “Robert H. Miller & Associates, Inc.” (Civil Engineering).

Chapter 3 - 1973-1978

The third chapter of Miller Legg’s history series: 1965-2005! Chapter 3 – The Miller and Legg Companies covers the years 1973-1978. In these years, Miller & Legg were developing their survey and civil companies.

Chapter 4 - 1979 -1985

This video is the fourth chapter of Miller Legg’s history series: 1965-2005. Chapter 4 – The Large Homebuilder Era covers the years from 1979 -1985. Here we learn about the economic turn for homebuilders, which changed survey and civil opportunities dramatically.

Chapter 5 - 1986 – 1989

The fifth chapter of Miller Legg’s History series: 1965-2005. Chapter 5 – The Land Development Team covers the years 1986 – 1989. This chapter discusses the booming business of the day, including housing and land development opportunities, which sparked the concept of the merger between the two companies, Miller & Legg. They settled for being close teaming partners, and dubbed themselves, ‘The Land Development Team.’

Chapter 6 - 1990 – 1994

The sixth chapter of Miller Legg’s History series: 1965-2005. Chapter 6 – Recession and Recovery covers the years 1990 – 1994, during which the companies dealt with (and recovered from) their first big economic recession.

1995 - Miller Legg Merger

Miller Legg, as we know it today, is established through the official merger of Robert H. Miller & Associates (Civil Engineering) and R.P. Legg & Associates (Land Surveyors) in 1995.

Chapter 7 - 1995-1999

The seventh chapter of Miller Legg’s History series: 1965-2005. Chapter 7 – The Miller Legg Merger covers years 1995-1999 and the merger of the Miller & Associates and Legg & Associates companies, which make up today’s ‘Miller Legg’. It was in these years that Miller Legg first introduced Landscape Architecture to their services.

1997 - Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture is integrated into Miller Legg.

Chapter 8 - 2000-2005

The eighth chapter of Miller Legg’s History series: 1965-2005. Chapter 8 – Ownership Transition, covers the years 2000-2005, in which Bob Miller & Bob Legg decided that ownership of Miller Legg must remain in the ownership of its employees. Our Fort Lauderdale and Central Florida offices were also founded in this period.

Chapter 9 - 2006-2010

This video is the ninth chapter of Miller Legg’s history and continues to our 45th anniversary. The History of Miller Legg continues with Chapter 9 – Recession & Relocation, Spanning 2006-2010.

Chapter 10 - 2011-2015

The tenth video chapter of Miller Legg’s history brings us to our 50th Anniversary. The History of Miller Legg continues on Chapter 10 – On The Road to 50. Spanning 2011-2015.

2015 - 50 Years in Business!

The Firm celebrated its 50th Year in Business on April 1st, 2015.

A New Milestone = A New Beginning, with a commemorative logo, and a new website, too!

2015 - County Proclamation

In recognition of all the work the firm does in Broward County, Miller Legg was the recipient of a Broward County Proclamation for our 50th Anniversary.

Broward County designated April 1st as Miller Legg Appreciation Day.

Chapter 11 - 2016-2020

The eleventh video chapter of Miller Legg’s history covers the five years to our 55th Anniversary. The History of Miller Legg continues on with Chapter 11: Spanning 2016-2020.

2020 - 55 Years!

The Firm celebrated its 55th Year in Business on April 1st, 2020.

2021 - County Proclamation

In recognition of all the work the firm does in Broward County, Miller Legg was the recipient of a Broward County Proclamation for our 55th Anniversary.

Broward County designated April 1st, 2021 as Miller Legg Appreciation Day.

2022 - 57 Years!

The Firm celebrated its 57th Year in Business on April 1st, 2022! Happy Birthday, Miller Legg!

2022 - New Look

Another Anniversary and a New Website, too! Our New Website launched May 2022!

2023 - New Office

As a result of our continued growth and development, we are expanding our presence in Florida and recently opened a new office in Tampa in 2023.

2023 - New Headquarters

We Moved!! In June 2023, after more than a decade in Fort Lauderdale, we relocated our corporate headquarters to a new space in Sunrise, FL.
