Robert P. Legg

On August 16, 2019 our founding principal, Robert P. Legg, passed away. Bob was a very humble man, land surveyor, business leader, and mentor. A long time resident of South Florida, he was a dedicated leader in the business, education and charitable communities of Broward County.

As a professional surveyor and mapper, Bob was responsible for many governmental and development projects in Broward County. From 1965 on, Bob established himself as a respected South Florida business leader that served as a mentor to many survey and land development professionals through his retirement in 2008.

Bob’s dedication to the community was exemplified by his serving in countless local organizations such as Builders Association of South Florida, Davie/Cooper City Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, Broward Days Workforce Development Team, Broward Economic Development Board, Broward Alliance, School Board of Broward County Strategic Planning Committee, Broward Business Coalition for Education and the Broward Education Foundation.

Bob served as a member of the McFatter School Advisory Council for more than twenty years, and on June 8, 2018, in recognition of his commitment to public education the Robert P. Legg Industrial Building was dedicated on the McFatter Technical College campus in Davie, Florida.

Bob led the statewide “Send Your Sales Tax to Schools” Initiative and spearheaded the legislative process to change state law so that local school districts could partner with the business community to secure school technology funding. In 2006, Governor Jeb Bush signed a Bill into law enacting the Initiative. Funds from the Initiative continue to benefit our Florida public schools with millions of dollars for new technology and teacher training.

Bob has left an indelible impact on all of us and will be deeply missed for his kindness and sincerity.

I knew Bob since I was 11 years old. A total of 57 years. He was a friend of my Dad’s, had played sports against and with him in the Men’s softball leagues, and they shared many mutual friends. As an adult I developed a professional relationship with him and knew Bob well in that realm. Everything about him was sincere, professional, and he presented a fine example to us all. He was a pioneering type in the slow days of Broward growing with the area to its urbanization. I have much about him to reflect upon. He will be missed.
