Senior Surveyor

Plans, directs, and coordinates work of survey crews and related staff, knowledge of land legal descriptions, boundary, topography, quantities, construction layout and as-built surveys, descriptions by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as project manager responsible for the successful completion of assigned tasks, such as establishment of budgets, task execution, cost control, and ongoing projection of final projects costs.
  • Performs project management duties such as planning, scheduling and coordinating field activities at project sites.
  • Prepares various permit application documentation.
  • Performs QA/QC for final deliverable survey plans and calculations necessary to provide required information including, but not limited to areas and volumes.
  • Monitors and assesses survey crew work practices for compliance with regulatory standards and safety practices.
  • Compiles and assesses survey data and other technical information and prepares reports.
  • Evaluation reports for technical adequacy and completeness.
  • Attends meetings with facility staff, clients, state/local regulatory and other officials, and prepares meeting notes and summaries.
  • Prepares and presents proposals to clients.
  • Processes invoices and other payment requests related to assigned projects.
  • Assumes legal responsibility for work.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans, organizes and supervises work of staff of professionals and support personnel on larger or more complex projects.  Potentially supervises P4 – P6 and/or T1 – T6.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years experience or master’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of experience.  Degree(s) and experience must be related to area of practice.  Previous project management experience required.   Knowledge and experience with South Florida governmental agency requirements for surveying including, but not limited to,  Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and Florida Department of Transportation is required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

P.S.M. registration/certification required.
